Royal Wedding : It's Sarah Burton!

The Alexander McQueen designer made Kate Middleton's wedding dress.

Burton was long-rumored to be the dressmaker, with buzz starting in March that she'd been tapped for the job. The Sunday Times of London first claimed Burton was The Chosen One and the rest of the British newspapers and, of course, Twitter really went to town.

But, Burton squelched the speculation, telling Vogue UK, "I am not doing it," and McQueen CEO Jonathan Akeroyd, who was said to have leaked the news to a colleague, which then ended up in the Times, denied the reports, remarking, "No, not at all. I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it."
The turning point was Thursday night when a photograph of a woman appearing to be Burton was spotted entering The Goring Hotel, where Kate Middleton spent the night.

Royal Wedding Cake Time To Time

by Classic Celebration Cakes Team

Below are pictures of these wonderful cakes which were presented for the following occasions: -
  • The wedding of HRH Princess Alexandra & Angus Ogilvy (1963)
  • The wedding of HRH Princess Anne & Mark Phillips (1973)
  • The wedding of HRH Prince Charles & Lady Diana Spencer (1981)
  • The wedding of HRH Prince Andrew & Sarah Ferguson (1986)
  • The wedding of HRH Prince Edward & Sophie Rhys-Jones (1999)

Classic Celebration Cakes Team is proud about its company's links with the Royal Wedding Cakes

The team's association began in 1963 when Andrew (who was a lot younger then) first worked on Princess Alexandra's Wedding Cake. This particular cake was very intricate piece that stood over 5 foot high and was iced in a traditional Royal Icing.

In 1973 Andrew was involved in presenting his second wedding cake for the marriage of HRH Princess Anne & Mark Phillips, This cake again was an impressive wedding cake which stood over 6 foot tall and again was made from Royal Icing.

In 1981 Andrew was joined by his daughter Elizabeth to present a cake for the wedding of HRH Prince Charles & Lady Diana Spencer. This cake was the first of three cakes Andrew and Elizabeth have worked together on and stood over 6 foot high. The traditional fruit cake was sliced and placed into individual monogrammed boxes which were then placed inside boxes which formed the decorated layers of the cake. The individual cake was finished with sugar paste icing and hand painted.

All the cakes presented to the Royal Family on these occasions were a traditional fruit cake centre although the techniques and methods used have changed very little since the first cake.

Andrew has ensured that the traditions and skills required for this type of work have been passed on to the future generations and todays employees have the same high level of skills and experience.

Caroline Herrera - April 2011 Launching

A modern romance...

"The petticoat of every Carolina Herrera gown is embroidered with the bride's initials in blue; sweet tradition-ticking hidden detail!" Tweeted our editor, Miranda Eason, from the front row at Carolina Herrera during this season’s New York Bridal Week.

We’re in total agreement! If you’re a stylish, romantic, lace-loving, detail-craving bride-to-be, you’ll love it too. Go starry-eyed for Herrera’s latest collection, straight from the catwalk...

Bow-ed over

Lashings of silk work so well here, because this three-quarter-sleeved dress is so simple. The only embellishment needed is the pretty bow tied at the waist. Keep things simple with a pastel-pink posy and wear hair pulled back into a prim ballerina bun.

Wild at heart

Create your own wildflower fantasy with a trailing bouquet of daisies; worn so well here with this classic column wedding dress.

Tudor Rose

Ever seen Shakespeare in Love? We reckon this heavily embroidered wedding dress has a hint of the Tudor romance about it. Check out the rich white tapestry on the dress itself and the tantalisingly virtuous neckline. Next we'll be reciting Shakespeare instead of our wedding vows...

A tale of two dresses

As you walk the aisle in this minimal yet elegant little number, you might be mistaken for taking the safe route to matrimony. That is, until you hear the gasps of delight from your seated guests...

Stripes we like

...a dramatic yet modern burst of spring-fresh greens, lilacs, yellows and greys, on a train topped off by a glittering garden butterfly. Now, who said you weren't daring?

The romantic movement

We've come over all poetic for this sonnet-inspiring, romantic wedding dress. With its bustier design and sweeping lace veil, we could definitely compare it to a summer's day.

Sheer beauty

Brides in search of a dress that covers yet reveals should play the coquette in this sheer, fitting gown. If you're worried about those upper arm areas, the ultra-pretty sheer detailing across the décolletage and shoulders will make them your strongest asset.

Flower bomb

Become a beautiful floral bombshell by slipping into this stunning flower-themed wedding dress. Not only does it feature a lovely stitched arrangement of beautiful blooms at the front, but we've also spied an oh-so-stylish, on-trend asymmetric bow hidden in there too!

Georgian glory

The Regency pretensions of this classic column wedding dress put us in mind of Elizabeth Bennett of Pride and Prejudice fame. And we all know the famous Mr. D she ended up marrying...

Poppy appeal

This fit-for-a-princess wedding dress is strewn with pretty poppy motifs. From the waist corsage to the matching bouquet, and then that monochrome embroidery that seems to cascade from the bodice; the life of a botanist never looked so appealing!

Dancing in the moonlight

Why go for a white dress when a subtle shade of lilac looks just as stunning? We love the dramatic neckline on this icy pale number, flecked by silvery sparkles - dazzling for your first moonlit dance.

Patience is a virtue

If only we had the patience (and time!) to master the art of origami... but heck, we're leaving it to the professionals! Lucky for us then, the folded neckline of this virtuous empire-line wedding dress is fantastic folded inspiration itself. If anyone asks, we did it ourselves!

Daisy chain charm

Remember how fond you were of making daisy chains as a child? Keep things fun and frivolous at your wedding with an easy posy of daisies and an unusual flower-rich fabric - just like this romantic wedding dress

Starry, starry night

We're dying to see this crystal encrusted wedding dress beneath a full star-flecked night. Perfect for an afternoon-to-evening wedding, we'd team it with a glamorous stole to keep warm when enjoying cocktails with your guests beneath a blanket of stars

All Things Bright

Like a shiny new silver coin, this icy bright strapless wedding dress will ensure you look bright and gleaming from day to night. Pair it with a natural bouquet to balance out that bright white gleam.

Is this Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress?

You n Your Wedding Predicts: Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress

She’s got her prince and her rock, and they’ve nearly set a date – next for real-life princess-bride Kate Middleton: the wedding dress. Y&YW fashion editor Peta Hunt has picked her top 10 predictions for the look of Kate and Wills’ love…

Bruce Oldfield

“Bruce Oldfield has made other’s royals’ gowns and is an expert in dresses of scale.”

For understated elegance with a sweep of sheeny glamour, Kate can’t go wrong with the high-neck Sophie wedding dress. Sprinkled with embroidered flowers, it’s spring-wedding perfect – and she can add a Twenties headpiece for some retro edge

Amanda Wakeley

“Stylish and simple but oh-so modern, this Amanda Wakeley look would be brilliant for keeping out the chills if they get married in spring.”

That bolster collar and elbow-length sleeves say refined, modest chic, while the under-bust bow is a wink at so-now style. Kate could up the high-fashion ante with a bow-secured high bun, or go for polished-pretty with a neat classic chignon

Phillipa Lepley

“How wonderful if she chose this gorgeous Phillipa Lepley gown for a proper English Rose look.”
So Wills is a true romantic? He’ll definitely have met his match if Kate goes for this dreamy rose-trimmed wedding dress. With her hair back in a chunky plait, soft blush and rose pink lips, she’ll be every bit the girl-next-door princess

Jasper Conran

“Jasper Conran is all about simple styles, elegantly cut and using the best fabrics.”
Simple and structured is the name of the game in the strapless Freesia wedding dress – but there’s more to this minimalist beauty than meets the eye: that full train will help Kate make a stately big entrance, but it’s removable for a sleek evening look that’s kind to the Queen’s coffers. And that clean-cut neckline leaves plenty of room for a statement royal necklace – we’re thinking sapphires to match that engagement ring – though we’re not sure that her in-laws would let her get away with the tiara…

Jenny Packham

“Jenny Packham is a red-carpet favourite and knows how to use sparkle to effect, but she can also do breath-taking romance.”
Little girls around the country will see their dreams come true if Kate picks a frothy fantasy like Hemera. That full-blown skirt is the princessy stuff of fairy stories, while the sparkling bow waist-sash defines girlie – but there’s still just enough edge in that angular bodice that it ticks off fashion-forward for the grown-ups

Stewart Parvin

“Stewart Parvin is maker to the Queen and holder of the Royal Warrant – perfect for classic dresses with a Hollywood twist.”
Horse + carriage + lace-swathed wedding dress = rom-com-worthy arrival. Add a full-length, pearl-strewn veil and Kate’s straight out of a movie. All she needs is a cropped cardi to spare her the springtime air – and keep her under wraps as she says ‘I do’ to Prince Wills

Alice Temperley

“Alice Temperley is a favourite of the Notting Hill set – would Kate go for something like this beautiful lace covered dress?” A one-step homage to royals past – grandma-in-law included – Kate could earn some brownie points in the lace-draped, long-sleeved Jessamine. All she needs is her hair in three braids or a Gibson tuck, and there she has it: all-out vintage bridal – or she could modernise the look while staying simply classic: just use a strand of cream pearls as a headband.

Sassi Holford

“We love Sassi Holford, but the question is: does making the wedding dress for Autumn Patricia Phillips – wife of Peter Phillips, son of Anne, Princess Royal – put her out of the running?”
If it’s a timeless bridal style the new princess is after, it’s got to be the A-line, sweetheart Georgie wedding dress. That heart-shaped neck and subtly voluminous floor-length skirt are a classic wedding look that never fades, while that ribbon-like trim and sheeny under-bust sash add a touch of 21st-century sophistication

Suzanne Neville

“For that ‘X’ factor, who better to show off Kate’s figure than Suzanne Neville?”
Way to make covering up a serious style statement – Kate can keep it modest with a twinkle in the Rapture. A crystal-inset silver cuff would set off that shoulder strap, and tie in with the waist belt as it flatters her svelte curves. Plus she’ll earn a nod from Prince Phillip for the Grecian vibe – he was Prince Phillip of Greece and Denmark, after all

Belville Sassoon

“For the past 50 years, Belville Sassoon has been known as everyone’s favourite, including Madonna, Helen Mirren, Melanie Griffith, Leona Lewis and Katherine Jenkins.”
A dress to be remembered in, it’s all about the standout skirt on this breathtaking Bellville Sassoon wedding dress. Kate could add a jacket – we know how much she loves them, and we’d go for cropped and cream with this bodice – and keep her shoulders covered through those über-formal vows, then shed it for the cameras as she steps out of the church for an instant striking image for the history books.
